Mohawk Mountaineers and the cross country program is excited to announce the addition of Emily Chant (Waterdown, ON) and Ava Snyder (Burlington, ON) for the 2022-23 season.

The two runners are the first recruits of the summer for head coach David Hopton.

Chant and Snyder will be impactful runners for the Mountaineers women's team as they look to build on a fourth-place finish at the OCAA Championships from this past season.

"The positive environment and many opportunities are what attracted me to Mohawk," said Chant, who is currently finishing her secondary education at Waterdown District High School.

She brings with her experience as a triathlete competing at the Ontario Summer Games and at the national level.

Hopton said Chant's triathlon background and work ethic is what stood out during the recruiting process.

Snyder, a current student at Burlington Central High School, is also a triathlete. She captured a silver medal at the Ontario Summer Games in the triathlon event.

While enjoying all aspects of the sport, Snyder said running was her favoruite part of triathlon (via loaringpersonalcoaching.com).

Snyder credited the Mountaineers coaching staff and the college as to why she chose to come to Mohawk.

Hopton said he is excited to have Snyder's consistency and talent join the program.

Chant will enroll in the Paralegal program at Mohawk College beginning in September, and Snyder will begin her postsecondary studies in the Health, Wellness and Fitness program.
