Three members of the Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball team were honoured as 2022-23 OCAA All-Stars on Wednesday night. 

Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON) and Anika Gatto (Coquitlam, BC) were presented as OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars. This is the second consecutive year both have been named all-stars after being named to the second-team last season.

Yvonne Mann (Kitchener, ON) joins her teammates amongst the OCAAs best. The fifth-year setter was named an OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star. The honour is the first time in her career Mann has received an award at the OCAA Banquet and it comes in her final season.

Vanderwal was a standout middle blocker this season finishing with 43 total blocks and averaging 0.72 blocks per set – both statistics ranked fourth-best in the conference. In 17 matches played, the second-year also finished with 116 kills, 1.93 kills per set and 16 service aces. Vanderwal set career-highs in every major statistical category this season.

Finishing with a league-best 262 digs in 18 matches, Gatto was a one of the best liberos in the OCAA all season long. Her total number of digs was also the second-most in a single-season by a Mountaineer – falling 27 digs shy of tying the all-time women's volleyball record at Mohawk. The fourth-year also averaged 4.03 digs per set, second-best in the OCAA and third-best in a single-season for a Mountaineer.

After taking a few years off from volleyball, Mann returned to the Mountaineers this season and didn't miss a beat. She set a career-high with 399 assists – fourth-best in the OCAA – and 6.65 assists per set. Mann also set new career-highs with 123 digs and 2.05 digs per set.

The Mountaineers now prepare for an OCAA quarterfinal match versus the Conestoga Condors set to take place on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at Sheridan College.
