Mountaineers unable to snap losing streak against Royals

Mohawk Mountaineers returned to the court to begin the second half of the 2022/23 season, losing to the Redeemer Royals 3-0 (27-29, 13-25, 17-25).

The loss extends the Mountaineers losing streak to five and snaps their 10-game winning streak against the Royals that dates back to the 2016-17 season.

The Mountaineers started off the Thursday evening game with intensity and at several points in the first set brought the Royals to the brink of defeat. However, Redeemer took advantage of some defensive mishaps by Mohawk to win the opening set and carry momentum the rest of the way.

Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON) led the Mountaineers with six kills in the match and Anika Gatto (Coquitlam, BC) defensively had 11 digs.

Next up for Mohawk includes a trip to Windsor, ON to play the St. Clair Saints on Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.
