Mountaineers women's volleyball are back in the win column after defeating the Fanshawe Falcons 3-1.

Mohawk dropped the first set (25-27), but were able to bounce back, winning the next three sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-6).

"I think it just took us a while to get comfortable," said head coach Matthew Schnarr. "Once we did that we started playing more as a unit."

Schnarr highlighted that missed serves played a big part in the Mountaineers first set struggles, but that the girls were able to turn it around quickly, resulting in the win.

Mohawk's coaching staff was impressed with multiple players for their performance against the Falcons.

"Julia Watson was definitely our leader in the first half of the game," Schnarr said.

The fifth-year star finished the match with 10 kills.

Kaelyn Emslie, Rachel Vanderwal and Sofia Spoljar were other Mountaineers highlighted for their efforts to support Watson.

"They were able to come together to take some of the pressure off of her," Schnarr said.

Emslie had nine kills and four aces, while Vanderwal added eight kills, three aces and four blocks, and Spoljar had four kills and nine aces. Setter Amanda Kuiper was credited with 26 assists.

Mohawk women's volleyball returns to the DBARC to play their final exhibition game of 2021 on Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. versus the Sheridan Bruins.
