It was a bounce back performance for Mohawk women's volleyball following a 3-1 match victory (25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19) against the Humber Hawks.

The Mountaineers came out determined after having been swept in four sets against the St. Clair Saints a few days earlier.

"I think we played a little bit more freely today," said head coach Matthew Schnarr. "We focused around the word 'play' today and that's exactly what we did."

Mohawk put a big focus on improving on the defensive side.

"Our service pressure allowed us to play defence in a more controlled state," Schnarr said. "I felt on the weekend we didn't serve tough enough to give us chances to dig comfortably and I think tonight we were able to dig a lot more. We were able to serve our way into more defensive plays."

Schnarr highlighted libero's Anika Gatto and Emily MacEachern for their performances.

"We tried for the first time ever a two-libero system and they both did their job really well," Schnarr said. "It's nice to be able to try different things and execute them"

Right side hitter Julia Watson had 13 kills.

The Mountaineers continue exhibition play on Nov. 20 when they travel to face the Sheridan Bruins at 1 p.m.
