Mountaineers women’s volleyball dominate OUA opponents in exhibition play

It may only be exhibition play, but Mohawk women's volleyball is showcasing high level of skill following two victories over OUA competition.

The Mountaineers defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-1 and followed that with another 3-1 victory over the Western Mustangs.

In the first match, Mohawk won the first set 25-22. The Lancers would take set two 23-25 before the Mountaineers came back in the next two sets 25-20 and 28-26.

Sofia Spoljar led the way with 16 kills and two aces. Kaelyn Emslie was strong both offensively and defensively with 10 kills, six aces and 13 digs.

In game two, the Mountaineers lost set one to the Mustangs 26-28. Mohawk would dominate the next three sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22.

Emslie added 13 kills and three aces. Julia Watson impressed with 10 kills, two blocks and an ace.

Setter Amanda Kuiper finished the day with a combined 108 assists, seven kills and six aces.

The Mountaineers will return to DBARC next weekend (Nov. 13) to host the St. Clair Saints. The women's game will be played at 2 p.m. and the men will follow at 4 p.m.
