Women's volleyball returned to the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre for the first time in over 600 days for an exhibition match versus the Durham Lords.

The two teams played four sets with the Mountaineers winning them all.

Mohawk head coach, Matt Schnarr, said a victory is always good but there are other things to feel excited about.

"For me, it wasn't about winning today. It was about all the returning athletes that lost the opportunity to play last year," Schnarr said. "I'm happy to win, but I'm more excited we had the opportunity to play in our home gym and represent our college."

Despite a slow start from the home team, the Mountaineers were superior throughout the whole match.

"We struggled off the service line, but once we got that rhythm between serving and passing, the game became easy." Schnarr said. "Our experience showed today"

The team put on a good performance today, but there are still things to improve as preseason play continues.

"We need to improve on our serving. I'm fine with the risk of serving, but we need to find a balance between risk and strategy," Schnarr said. "We will work on that from now on. Once we establish that, we will be OK.

Mohawk will host the St. Clair Saints for their next exhibition match on Nov. 13 with a 2 p.m. start.
