Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer is excited to announce the addition of five new recruits for its 2023 season.

The Mountaineers are coming off an undefeated regular season in 2022 and made an appearance to the OCAA Championship tournament.

Entering his third season as head coach, Paul Giannini said it was important for Mohawk to get out and recruit early, especially with student-athletes having interest from other institutions.

"Although we were undefeated this past season, sometimes there were games that the ball went our way and we got a few bounces, and so maybe we tied or won a game we shouldn't have. I think this year we're more setup to have success," said Giannini, as the Mountaineer program looks to grow and compete.

The first two recruits include Brianna Terceira and Jaiden Morgan – two strikers with experience having played in the US.

"Both two strikers we definitely needed. One thing we needed to get was more goals," Giannini said, after Mohawk finished in the bottom half of the OCAA in goals for in 2022. "Both are going to have an impact on our team."

Terceira is from Oakville, ON and attended Garth Webb Secondary while playing club for the Burlington Force. The 5'4 striker was named Rookie of the Year for her high school team in grade nine and team MVP in grade 12.

Morgan comes to the Mountaineers from Prairie View A&M University, where she appeared in 27 games. The tall 5'8 striker, initially from Burlington, ON, graduated high school from Notre Dame Secondary.

Another area of need was also filled by Giannini and the Mountaineers coaching staff with the addition of two goalkeepers in Gabriella Quenneville and Mia Hadley.

Last season Mohawk played with Samantha DeHaan as their lone goalkeeper, having started in all 10 games and producing a .849 save percentage.

Giannini admitted there was a fear of their one goalie getting hurt.

"We didn't have anybody (else). We'd have to put a (position) player in net," he said. "And now, having three goalies at our disposal is fantastic. I think they're all unique in their own way."

Giannini added that one goalkeeper might be better suited in one style of game, while someone else in a different style, so having the options will be exciting moving forward.

Quenneville comes to the Mountaineers from Leamington, ON and Kingsville District Secondary, while having played for the Belle River Soccer Club. Hadley is from Milton, ON, where she attended Bishop Reding Catholic and played club for the Burlington Force.

The final addition among this group of recruits for the Mountaineers is 5'5 forward Nawal Soubra from Brampton, ON. Soubra is finishing high school at Jan Augustine Secondary and played club level with Rush Canada.

"She comes from a good soccer program, good coaching and is an athletic kid that works super hard," Giannini said. "She'll definitely be an impact for us and help us."

Terceira and Morgan will be at Mohawk studying Health, Wellness and Fitness, while Quenneville will be studying Cardiovascular Technology, Hadley will be enrolled in Electrical Engineering and Soubra will be studying Pre-health Sciences.
