In a preseason scrimmage match, Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer found their offensive power in a 3-0 win over the George Brown Huskies.

It was the Mountaineers first game of the year at Tim Hortons Field – their new home for the 2022 season.

Mohawk dominated the first half with 15 shots on goal, and the defence was well organized and effectively interrupted the Huskies attack. Despite the momentum, the Mountaineers and Huskies went into halftime tied 0-0.

"They (George Brown) have a good goalkeeper, and we were shooting high on the goal," Mohawk head coach Paul Giannini said about the first half.

The Mountaineers continued to play a strong match in the second half with 18 shots on goal. First-year Alyssa Glasbergen got Mohawk on the board in the 51st minute. Emily Mindzak followed with a goal in the 79th minute and Paige Epp added the third in the 85th.

"I'm excited that I scored my first goal in this new venue," Glasenberg said. "There is more to come."

The Mountaineers will wrap-up preseason play on Sept. 2 when they host the Loyalist Lancers at Dave Mantel Field for a 12 p.m. start.

Both Mohawk's women's and men's teams will open regular season play on Sept. 9 with they travel to St. Clair.

Their home opener takes place Sept. 14 when they host the Redeemer Royals. Entry to Tim Hortons Field is free for everyone.
