A late comeback push fell short for Mountaineers women's soccer in the opening round of OCAA playoffs. The St. Clair Saints held on for a 2-1 victory ending Mohawk's season.

The Mountaineers were the stronger team for the first 40 minutes of the game, generating opportunities and managing the ball. However, the Saints capitalized in the 43rd minute as Malary Cole gave the Windsor squad a 1-0 lead at halftime.

"We did a great job getting to their area, but we were a little bit sloppy in the final third," said Paul Giannini, Mohawk head coach.

The Saints would add to their lead in the 73rd minute when Natalie Turner found the back of the net.

Mohawk was able to answer quickly, as midfielder Lauren Snider got her squad on the board in the 78th minute.

"It was really exciting to score today, especially because we were so late in the game, and we were down by two goals," Snider said. "I think that goal brings up the excitement in the momentum for everyone."

The late goal just wasn't enough to send the game to overtime.

"I think we got better and better," Giannini said about his squad's season. "We got better as a team and individually. From the start to now, it's only two months, so it is a short time, but in that period we improved a lot."
