A strong season for a young Mountaineers women's basketball team came to an end in the OCAA Quarterfinals after a 98-49 loss to the Humber Hawks.

Mohawk, which features a roster of eight first-year athletes, ended the season with a 3-5 record, which placed them fourth in the OCAA West Division. The Mountaineers prior to the loss to the Hawks defeated the Sheridan Bruins in the conference qualifying round.

The quarterfinal matchup saw the Mountaineers going up against a Hawk squad that had yet to lose a game all season.

Mohawk fell behind in a low scoring first quarter 16-8 but played a much stronger second quarter. The Mountaineers shot 47.1 per cent from the field in the second frame.

In the second half, Humber was able to find their offense, outscoring Mohawk 28-12 in the third. The scoring from the Hawks continued in the fourth quarter, as the Mountaineers struggled from the field.

Mohawk's Tianna Stys (St. Catharines, ON) had herself a nice game with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Celina Chung (Oakville, ON) finished the game with seven points and seven rebounds, while Lauren Snider (Brantford, ON) had six points with 10 rebounds.
