The Mountaineers women's basketball team lost 87-55 to the undefeated St. Clair Saints.

Mohawk fell behind in the first quarter, but played a strong second to keep it a nine point game going into the half.

In the second half, the Saints defence stepped up big and was able to hold the Mountaineers to single digits in both the third and fourth quarters.

Mohawk's 22 turnovers to St. Clair's eight was a major difference in the ball game.

The Mountaineers shot 35.8 per cent versus a Saints team that has only given up more than 60 points once this season.

Tianna Stys (St. Catharines, ON) led Mohawk with 20 points and six rebounds. Donna-Marie Borja (Calgary, AB) also had a solid game with seven points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Celina Chung (Oakville, ON) continues to rebound well for Mohawk, grabbing 13 boards to go along with eight points.

The Mountaineers will conclude their regular season on Mar. 5 when they travel to play the Lambton Lions at 2 p.m. If Mohawk wins, they will host a playoff game on Mar. 9.
