Mountaineers women's basketball defeated the Sheridan Bruins 53-44 in their final game of preseason.
In the first quarter, Sheridan had the slight upper hand taking a 13-11 lead.
In the second, Mohawk held Sheridan to eight points and took a 23-21 lead into halftime.
An offensive outburst by the Mountaineers in the fourth quarter sealed the deal. Mohawk converted 50 per cent of their shots and outscored the Bruins 20-13.
The Mountaineers shot 28 per-cent from the field for the game but were able to hold Sheridan to just 21 per-cent. Mohawk scored 13 points off 19 turnovers.
The Mountaineers out rebounded the Bruins 57-51 resulting in 12 second chance-points for Mohawk.
Mohawk's Celina Chung led the team to victory scoring 19 points and collecting eight boards. Rachel Guanzon also had a solid game with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Mountaineers begin regular season play in the new year against the same Sheridan Bruins on Jan. 7.
