The Mountaineers women's basketball team lost 69-46 to the visiting Humber Hawks.

Humber's defence made it difficult for Mohawk to make clean passes, as the Hawks scored 24 points off of turnovers in the game compared to the Mountaineers two.

Head coach Hali Burns emphasized her team's need to play harder in the paint, particularly when chasing rebounds.

"We need to get back to rebounding the ball the way we have in previous games," Burns said. "We need to get more physical in the paint and reduce second chance opportunities for the other team".

The first quarter was a close contest with Humber leading 20-16. In the second quarter the Hawks extended their lead with a 19-2 run making it 37-23 at the half.

"Humber did a good job of putting pressure on decision makers and getting after the boards," Burns said.

The third quarter saw the Hawks outscore the Mountaineers 17-10 to make it a 21-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Humber would hold onto their lead in the fourth to close out the win.

Mohawk's bench combined for 21 points compared to Humber's 10 bench points.

Rachel Guanzan was the leading scorer for Mohawk with 12.

The Mountaineers will next play on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. on the road versus the Fanshawe Falcons.
