Mountaineers place fourth at OCAA Championship

Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball fell just shy of an OCAA medal with a 3-1 (17-25, 21-25, 26-24, 23-25) loss to the Cambrian Golden Shield in the conference bronze medal match.

It was a slow start for Mohawk in the opening set, but they began to play a better match in the second set, leading early 7-2. Cambrian answered with their own run to make it a close set.

The Mountaineers would answer with a short run of their own to take a 13-9 lead, but the Golden Shield once again answered and would go score consecutive points late to steal the set.

It was in the third set up 20-19, Mohawk would score three straight and close out the set.

Unfortunately, in the fourth set up 23-22, the Mountaineers could not close it out and the Golden Shield would score three straight for the match win.

Anthony Beijes (Hamilton, ON) was named an OCAA Championship All-Star, and produced 19 kills and eight digs in the match.

Peter Pilling (St. Catharines, ON) was Mohawk's Player of the Game with 36 assists and 10 digs.

The fourth place finish is the best season for Mountaineers men's volleyball since the 2016-17 season.
