Playoff Preview: Mountaineers get defending OCAA Champion Hawks in semifinals

Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball will have a chance to clinch a spot into the OCAA gold medal match tonight when they play the Humber Hawks in the semifinals at 6 p.m.

The playoff matchup will be streamed on OCAA Live.

The Matchup:

The Mountaineers come into the match after defeating two OCAA East division teams in the playoffs. They first won 3-0 over the Durham Lords in the qualifying round and then defeated the Georgian Grizzlies 3-0 in the quarter-final match.

Humber – who has been crowned OCAA Champions two seasons in a row – has had similar success these playoffs. They also defeated two east division opponents, winning 3-0 over the Fleming Knights and then defeating the Algonquin Wolves 3-0.

Playoff History:

Mohawk hasn't played for a provincial medal since 2016-17 when they won the OCAA title.

As mentioned above, the Hawks have won the last two OCAA championships and competed in each of the last four OCAA gold medal matches.

What Happened Last Time:

This season the Mountaineers and Hawks split their two matches. Mohawk won 3-0 at home and Humber – who has had a strong second half of the season – won 3-1 in January.

What's on the Line:

A win tonight will line Mohawk up to play either the Fanshawe Falcons or Cambrian Golden Shield in the OCAA gold match.
