Snippe, Neame, Sloots earn OCAA year-end honours

Mountaineer award winners

Three Mountaineers men's volleyball athletes have been rewarded for their performance during the 2021/22 season.

Nathan Snippe (St. Ann's, ON) was named OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star, while teammates Turner Neame (Hamilton, ON) and Joel Sloots (Hamilton, ON) were both named to the OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team.

This is the second time Snippe has been named a second-team all-star, previously winning the honours in 2015/16 when he played for the Niagara Knights.

The right side hitter finished second on the Mountaineers with 79 kills and 3.16 kills per set – the latter was also good enough for ninth in the OCAA. Snippe also had six service aces and 11 blocks on the season.

Neame was a pleasant surprise for the Mountaineers as he played all of exhibition as the team libero, but was asked to change positions prior to the start of regular season and took on the responsibility as the teams starting setter.

The Ancaster High School alum led the OCAA with 283 assists and 9.13 assists per set. Neame also led Mohawk with 62 digs, which ranked eighth in the conference.

Sloots was an important middle blocker for the Mountaineers, leading the team with 14 blocks, which ranked in the top-20 of the OCAA. The Hamilton native also had 32 kills in seven matches.

This is the first time since the 2016/17 season that the Mountaineers men's volleyball program has had more than one year-end award recipient.

The men finished the season with a 6-3 record and were eliminated in the OCAA Quarterfinal round.
