Mac Akrong is a former Mountaineer student-athlete himself, spending five seasons with the basketball program. Following his time as an athlete at Mohawk, Akrong transitioned to the coaching side as a student coach for McMaster University's basketball team.
Akrong, a Hamilton native, has been with the program since 2009. He spent 14 years as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers under former head coach Brian Jonker, where Mohawk claimed a national championship, two OCAA gold medals, an OCAA silver and bronze.
Akrong remains on the Mountaineers coaching staff under head coach Jamie Girolametto.
