Windsor, ON Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball have advanced to the OCAA semifinals after a 93-81 win over the defending conference champion Humber Hawks.

The Mountaineers got off to a strong start with a 6-0 lead, forcing the Hawks to call a timeout one minute into the game. Mohawk would extend their lead to eight midway through the opening quarter and go up 26-16 after the first 10 minutes.

Humber would make their push in the second quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 48-44 lead at halftime.

Head coach Brian Jonker said the Mountaineers had to make a couple adjustments at half to turn the momentum.

"One of them was to make sure we got Daniel (Graham) more touches in space and have Mackenzie (Hart) set more screens because they weren't defending him," Jonker said.

Mohawk would find themselves on their own 8-0 run in the third quarter to regain the lead and would later extend that run to 17-7 to lead by two heading into the final quarter.

The Mountaineers largest lead of 14 would come with 3:28 remaining in the game and while the Hawks were able to cut that lead down to eight, Mohawk was able to hold on for the victory.

"We stuck together pretty good today," Jonker said. "I've never been to an OCAAs or Nationals where the first game wasn't our toughest game."

Jerry Jr. Mercury (Scarborough, ON) was the Mountaineers Player of the Game with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Graham (Hamilton, ON) was the teams leading scorer with 20 points.

Brother duo Cale Calura (Hamilton, ON) and Rommel Calura (Hamilton, ON) provided 19 and 17, respectively.

Mohawk will now play in the OCAA semi-final game on March 4 at 4 p.m.
