Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Jerry Jr. Mercury as the Athlete of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Feb. 27 – Mar. 5.
Mercury (Scarborough, ON) was named an OCAA Championship All-Star for his efforts this past weekend that helped the Mountaineers capture the conference bronze medal. The second-year forward also received OCAA Second-Team All-Star honours at the year-end banquet.
In three games over the weekend, Mercury averaged 21.7 points and 16.3 rebounds.
He got things started in the quarter-final game versus the Humber Hawks, scoring 15 points on seven-of-13 shooting and grabbing 13 rebounds. Then in the semi-final game against the George Brown Huskies, Mercury had a monster 20 points and 20 rebound game.
The 20 rebounds set a new career-high for Mercury.
He continued to be an offensive and rebounding leader in the bronze game versus the Lambton Lions as Mercury would score a career-high 30 points and pull down 16 rebounds.
Mercury and the Mountaineers won the programs first OCAA medal since 2015-16.
