Mohawk men's basketball lost to the Sheridan Bruins 89-83 in overtime.

The Mountaineers forced overtime with a late buzzer-beating three from Matt Foster, but could not steal the win.

Mohawk outscored Sheridan in the paint 38-24, but were outrebounded 65-50. The Bruins 24 offensive rebounds resulted in 25 second chance points compared to Mohawk's nine.

The Mountaineers were a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line, while the Bruins had 22 free throws, resulting in 15 makes.

"It's just one of those things on the road sometimes you get whistles, sometimes you don't," said head coach Brian Jonker.

Foster led Mohawk with 17 points and Rommel Calura added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Isaac Graham came off the bench for 12 points and 11 rebounds.

With preseason now wrapped up for Mohawk, Jonker remains confident that the Mountaineers will be able to play among the best when regular season play begins in January.

"There was a lot of things that I saw first semester that are positives for us going forward," Jonker said. "A couple of our younger guys have proven that they can play at this level."

He says despite their challenging schedule so far, "We know were capable of beating anybody that we've played."

Regular season play begins Jan. 7 for the Mountaineers on the road versus the Sheridan Bruins.
