The Mountaineers men's basketball team fell 98-86 to the Humber Hawks.

The first quarter was close with Mohawk taking an early lead thanks to a 10-0 run. Then, Humber took control of the game in the second quarter with a 17-2 run that really got their offense going.

In the first half, the Hawks outrebounded the Mountaineers 28-13 which led to 16 second chance points. The score at halftime was 59-36 in favour of Humber.

Head coach Brian Jonker thought the Mountaineers weren't aggressive enough in the second quarter.

"It seems to be a bit of a pattern, each game we have one bad quarter," Jonker said. "Today, we tied the first quarter, won both the third and fourth and we got blown out in the second… We've got to find a way to be a little bit more consistent."

In the second half, the Mountaineers showed a lot more intensity and caused lots of problems for Humber. Mohawk's Isaac Graham was a menace on defence during Humber's late game inbounds.

But the Mountaineers were outsized in the paint.

"[Humber] made a really good consolidated effort to pound it inside with the big guys and we didn't handle it well enough," Jonker said.

Daniel Graham once again led the way for the Mountaineers with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Three others scored in double digits with Rommel Calura dropping 12, Cale Calura adding 12 and Matt Foster scoring 10.

Jonker was especially impressed with the play of Rickey Morrison, who got his first start of exhibition play, and put up eight points, five rebounds and two assists.

The Mountaineers next play on Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. on the road versus the Fanshawe Falcons.
