HAMILTON, ON - A busy offseason for Mohawk Mountaineers softball continues to progress with the addition of two more recruits; now totalling 10 new faces to the roster ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Mountaineers are excited to announce Ashlee LaForme and Kayla Makowich will join the roster for the upcoming year.

"We are excited with the look of the roster," said head coach Chris McColl. "It's going to be a fun team."

LaForme will be another addition to the Mohawk pitching staff from New Credit, ON. She comes to the collegiate level from Hagersville Secondary School while having played club for UTM Morriston. LaForme also has the ability to play shortstop and first base.

With UTM, LaForme won the 2017 Grand Valley Ladies Softball League championship and in 2022 was the recipient of the Presidents Award at the provincial championships.

"Ashley is really going to be a great compliment," said McColl. "I think she's going to come in and be a good strong pitcher that's going to carry us a long way."

Makowich comes to the Mountaineers from Guelph, ON, having attended Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute and playing club ball for the Etobicoke Mayhem. With the addition the Mohawk depth chart at the catching position is up to three with Makowich joining Michaela Walker and Brooke Cressman.

In a couple tournaments that included the 2022 Capital City Showdown and Motor City Showdown in the U.S., Makowich won multiple game MVP awards.

"She gives us depth behind the plate," McColl said. "Her athleticism, strength and baseball IQ are just fantastic."

LaForme will attend Mohawk for the Practical Nursing program and Makowich will study Health, Wellness and Fitness.
