Mountaineers split a pair of matches on day two of CCAA Nationals

It was a split day for the Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling team on the second day of the CCAA Championships. The squad started the tournament with a win a day prior, but would only pickup one win in two matches on day two.

The Mountaineers would defeat the NAIT Ooks 10-1, but lose to the SAIT Trojans 9-7 to fall to 2-1 in round robin play.

Against NAIT, Mohawk would only allow a point in the third end. The big ends for the Mountaineers was two points in the first and three in both the fifth and seventh ends to complete the 10-1 win.

The loss to the Trojans will be one the Mountaineers wish they could get back. Through three ends Mohawk would lead 3-1 and the lead would expand to 7-2 after the seventh end when the Mountaineers scored three.

SAIT would answer with four in the eighth end to make it 7-6. And from there the Alberta team would take full momentum to score one in the ninth and two in the 10th to win 9-7.

The 2-1 record keeps Mohawk in the top-four with the Humber Hawks and Sault Cougars both being undefeated at 3-0, and the Mountaineers being tied with the Concordia Thunder at 2-1.

Day three of the tournament will see Mohawk play the Augustana Vikings at 12:30 p.m. and the undefeated Cougars at 8:30 p.m.
