Mountaineers curling opens CCAA Nationals with win over Knights

SUDBURY, ON - The 2023 OCAA Champion Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling team began their quest for a CCAA Championship banner with an 11-4 win over the Fleming Knights.

It was the first day of five for the National tournament that will see the Mountaineers play seven round robin games.

Mohawk made a statement to begin their match versus the Knights, scoring seven in the opening end.

By the end of three it would be the Mountaineers holding a convincing 8-1 lead. Mohawk would extend the score to 11-2 after scoring two in the sixth end and one in the seventh. Fleming would add two in the eighth but it wouldn't make much of a difference.

The Mountaineers join the Humber Hawks, Sault Cougars and NAIT Ooks as the four teams to pickup a win in their first-round robin game.

Day two of the tournament will have Mohawk playing a couple Alberta opponents beginning with the Ooks at 12:30 p.m. Then at 8:30 p.m. the Mountaineers will play the SAIT Trojan.
