HAMILTON, ON - Mohawk Mountaineers men's curling is off to Sudbury, ON this week to compete in the CCAA National Championship hosted by Curling Canada between March 15-19.

Coming off a performance at the OCAA Championship in February that saw the Mountaineers win gold, the Mohawk squad is looking to add a National banner to closeout their year.

The Mountaineers also won the OCAA Championship in 2021-22, but Curling Canada had announced there would be no national college championship that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Round robin play at the CCAA Championship will consist of seven matches beginning on Mar. 15 and running through to Mar. 18. The final day on Mar. 19 will feature the semi-final and medal matches.

Mohawk will open play on Mar. 15 at 9 p.m. versus a familiar foe in the Fleming Knights. The Mountaineers and Knights have played in a trio of matches against each other this year that has seen Mohawk come away with wins in all three. That included 8-1 and 10-1 wins at the OCAA Championship, with the latter being the conference semi-final match.

The Mountaineers will then play a couple of Alberta opponents on Mar. 16 beginning with the NAIT Ooks at 12:30 p.m. and SAIT Trojans at 8:30 p.m.

Day three will begin with another Alberta opponent at 12:30 p.m. as Mohawk will play the Augustana Vikings. At 8:30 p.m. it is back to playing a familiar OCAA rival in the Sault Cougars – a team the Mountaineers have also had success against, beating the Cougars twice earlier in the year.

The final day of round robin will begin with an OCAA Championship rematch as Mohawk will play the Humber Hawks at 8:30 a.m. The two squads have met in the conference championship in back-to-back years, finally getting to play each other on the National stage.

Round robin play will conclude with a match versus the Concordia Thunder of Alberta at 4:30 p.m on Mar. 18.

Mountaineers social media will have coverage of the CCAA Curling Championship on its social media channels.
