In his 12-year curling career Jacob Jones has already accomplished a lot.

The Brantford native won an OCAA silver medal in his first-year with the Mohawk Mountaineers in 2020, qualifying for the CCAA Championships. Prior to the collegiate-level, Jones was part of three OFSAA teams at North Park Collegiate and Vocational School, winning bronze in 2019.

His resume also includes a 2018 Toronto Curling Association championship, 11 provincial events and two national bonspiels, while also participating in a handful of junior tour events over the last several seasons.

To add to an already luxurious young career, Jones will be representing Ontario at the 2021 New Holland World Juniors Qualifying Event in Saskatoon from Nov. 22-27. His team – Team Mitchell – qualified after going undefeated at the Ontario Curling Association's U21 men's qualifier bonspiel earlier this month.

"It means more than words can explain," Jones said. "Becoming a provincial champion and being able to represent Ontario has always been a goal of mine and I can't wait for such a great experience."

The winner of the World Junior event will head to the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships from March 5-12 in Jonkoping, Sweden as Team Canada.

"I'm just looking forward to the experience and getting to play against some of the best U21 curlers in the country," said Jones.

Jones, the skip for the Mountaineers men's curling program, will be the fifth for Team Mitchell.

The 20-year-old credits his mother as his biggest inspiration through his curling career.

"There's no chance I would be where I am today if she wasn't so supportive," he said. "She always drove me to all my events and paid for pretty much everything in my curling career, and even now when I can drive myself to events, she still comes to watch my games."

"She pushes me to be the best player I can be."

Mountaineers men's curling will return to OCAA action in 2022 with aspirations of getting back to the CCAA Championships.
