Mountaineers in the Community

  • Habitat for Humanity
Mohawk College Athletics alongside Campus to Community raised funds to assist Habitat for Humanity with an onsite build at home in the local Hamilton community. We were able to raise over $25,000 in the two years of this program. Athletes, coaches, staff and the MSA were integral in the success of this venture.
  • Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club
We partnered our Varsity Athletes with Campus to Community in 2019 to program six weeks of introduction to Mohawk Mountaineer sports. The athletes and coaches prepared and planned sport sessions for the boys and girls over a six-week program. Each sport was showcased once in the six-week program.
  • Mental Health Month
Mohawk Athletics in coordination and partnership with Mental Health in Motion have created an awareness campaign around Mental Health Stigma and support for those who need it. Both parties have raised over $2000 in the three -year campaign and we look forward to continuing this relationship in the future.
  • Holiday Toy Drive 2019
Mohawk College Athletics has been participating in a holiday toy drive for over 10+ years. The gifts generally are received by the Eva Rothwell Resource Centre and Neighbor to Neighbor. Varsity athletes, coaches and staff have been contributing upwards of 150+ toys and books each year during these drives.
  • Unified Sports/Special Olympics Partnership
We have programmed our unified basketball sport league for two years (on hold due to COVID-19) with Hamilton chapter for Special Olympics. Unified Sport is an inclusive sport program that brings athletes with and without intellectual disabilities together for competition. In Unified Sport programs, there is a comparable number of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities on the court/field at the same time. Our team in 2019 qualified for the World Youth Games where they won a silver medal in the University College Division. We have had a Special Olympics partnership since Fall 2016 started by Terri Deline in honor of former Mohawk employee Alex Robertson who passed away in 2016. We have raised over $2000 in that time at one of our Fall home basketball/volleyball games.
