Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Ashley Verhees and Jacob Jones as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Feb. 6-12.
Verhees (Elmwood, ON) along with Elias Whittington (Campbellville, ON) led the Mountaineers mixed doubles program to its second consecutive OCAA medal. The duo defeated the Confederation Thunderhawks in the bronze medal match this past weekend in Welland, ON. Verhees was named an OCAA Second Team All-Star for her performance.
Jones (Brantford, ON) for the second consecutive year was named the top OCAA curler after the provincial championships. The Mohawk skip led his squad to an OCAA Championship with an 8-4 win over the Humber Hawks. The third-year student-athlete was named the OCAA Men's Most Valuable Player and First-Team All-Star; the second year in a row he has taken home those individual awards.
Mohawk men's team will now prepare for the CCAA Championships, set to take place between March 15-19 in Sudbury, ON.
