Zicari, Neame named Mountaineer Athletes of the Week

Lexie Zicari and Turner Neame

Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Lexie Zicari and Turner Neame as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Jan. 23 – 29.

Zicari (Burlington, ON) and women's volleyball began the week nearly beating the No. 2 nationally ranked Humber Hawks. The match would go five sets in favour of the Hawks, but the Mountaineers taking two sets snapped Humber's streak of 31 consecutive sets won. Zicari filled the box sheet with a team-leading 13 kills, 10 digs and four service aces.

The second-year outside hitter would once again have a strong performance in Mohawk's three-set win over the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday. Zicari posted eight kills, four digs and two aces.

Neame (Hamilton, ON) last Wednesday night versus the Humber Hawks set a new Mountaineers record for total digs in a single-season, surpassing Ryan Dela Rosa who held the record with 132 digs from the 2011-12 season. Neame had 15 digs in the match versus the Hawks and added another 10 in three sets versus the Bruins. The second-year libero now has 159 digs on the season, placing him first in the Mountaineers record book and fourth in the OCAA this season.

Currently, Neame is averaging 2.94 digs per set which would also be a new Mountaineers single-season record.
