Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Kimberly Brinker and Stefan Anisko as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Oct. 17-23.
Brinker (Welland, ON) and women's soccer advanced to the OCAA quarterfinals following a 2-1 playoff win over the St. Lawrence Surge. The Mountaineers trailed 1-0 early, but in the 50th minute Brinker scored off a header that tied the match and changed all momentum in favour of Mohawk.
The second-year midfielder had a total of three shots in the match, including one from outside the box that hit the crossbar and nearly gave the Mountaineers a 3-1 advantage.
Women's soccer will play their quarterfinal match on Oct. 27 versus the Durham Lords in Oshawa, ON at 3 p.m.
Anisko (Haldimand County, ON) was the leading scorer in Mohawk's 125-75 home opener win over the Canadore Panthers. The first-year guard came off the bench to score 26-points on 10-of-14 shooting, including four threes', in his OCAA debut.
It's been an impressive start for Anisko, who was scoring at a high rate in preseason and has continued that success to begin the 2022 season.
