Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Alyssa Glasbergen and Cale Calura as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Oct. 3–9.
All season Glasbergen (Burlington, ON) has provided the Mountaineers a goal when they most needed it. Currently leading the team in scoring with four goals in 2022, the first-year striker gave Mohawk the early advantage en route to a 2-1 win over cross-city rivals the Redeemer Royals this past week.
With the win, Glasbergen and the Mountaineers are one win away from clinching a top-four OCAA west division playoff spot and hosting a crossover playoff game.
Calura (Hamilton, ON) and the men's basketball team hosted two NCAA Division III teams this past weekend. Mohawk came away with one win over the Hilbert Hawks and lost a close game to the Rochester Tigers.
The second-year guard was a physical presence in both games offensively. He dropped 25 points versus the Hawks, shooting 9-for-15 including four threes. In the game against the Tigers, Calura only scored 11 but was able to get in the paint multiple times to create for his teammates.
Mountaineers men's basketball begin regular season play on Oct. 22 when they host the Canadore Panthers inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre at 8 p.m.
