Snyder, Karl named Mountaineers Athletes of the Week

The Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Ava Snyder and Tyler Karl as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Sept. 26 – Oct. 2.

Snyder (Burlington, ON) has made a statement in the OCAA cross country scene after her first two races as a student-athlete. The first-year placed fifth at the Seneca Invitational a week ago, and this past week at the Fanshawe Invitational she found herself on the podium with a third-place finish and a time of 23:46. Snyder, a triathlete who competed for Ontario at the Canada Summer Games back in August, becomes one of the first Mountaineers to medal at an OCAA race competition in the last few years. While balancing her academics, Snyder continues to be committed to the Mountaineers cross country program and her triathlon training at the same time.

Karl's (Collingwood, ON) improvement as a cross country runner from week-to-week is what has netted him this honour. This week at the Fanshawe Invitational he placed 22nd with a time of 29:47, which moved him up nine spots from where he finished a week prior at the Seneca Invitational. The first-year runner showcasing his improvement helped the Mohawk men's team place fourth overall, just one-point shy of third.
