The Mohawk Mountaineers women's and men's soccer teams will host their 2022 regular season home opener on Wednesday night at their new home stadium – Tim Hortons Field.

This past summer the Mountaineers announced the move to the multi-propose stadium located in East Hamilton, where they will host five Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) soccer matches this season. Mohawk becomes the first Ontario college to play out of a professional stadium.

The action begins on September 14 at 6 p.m. when the Mountaineers women's team host cross-city rival the Redeemer Royals, followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.

"At Mohawk, we are so lucky to have Tim Hortons as our home field," said Mountaineers women's soccer head coach Paul Giannini. "It has been a big tool in recruiting our athletes and the players love playing there."

The Mountaineers got their first taste of Tim Hortons Field last year when they hosted the Sheridan Bruins for a regular season match, and again in late-August in an exhibition match versus the George Brown Huskies.

"I think it's very unique for our athletes to play in such a stadium," said Mohawk men's soccer head coach Jordan Brown. "I'm hoping the opportunity to play at Tim Hortons inspires our players to raise their level of play to meet the level of the facility."

Mohawk becomes the fourth sports program to call Tim Hortons Field home, joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League and the Hamilton Hurricanes of the Canadian Junior Football League.

The Mountaineers women's team will look for their second win of the season on Wednesday after getting off to a 1-0-1 start this past weekend. Mohawk's men's team will look for their first win of the season after a tough road trip to begin the year.

Admission to the games are free and open to Mohawk students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Entrance will take place at Gate 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
