The Mohawk Mountaineers are excited to announce a new partnership with the City of Hamilton that will see all 2022 soccer home games played at Tim Hortons Field – making Mohawk the first OCAA institution to call a professional stadium its home field.
Located in East Hamilton, Tim Hortons Field is currently home to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL), Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) and the Hamilton Hurricanes of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).
Doors to the multi-propose stadium opened in 2014 and has since hosted events such as the 2015 Pan-Am Games, the FIFA World Cup qualification match between Canada and the United States and the 2022 NHL Heritage Classic.
"We are thrilled to partner with the City of Hamilton on the use of Tim Hortons Field," said Matt Ferreira, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "The move to this first-class stadium matches with the Mountaineers high-performance mindset and will provide our soccer teams a site they can call theirs."
On Thursday the OCAA announced the 2022 schedule for both women's and men's soccer, with the Mountaineers first game at Tim Hortons Field to be played on September 14 versus cross-city rival the Redeemer Royals. The women's game will kick-off at 6 p.m. and the men will follow at 8 p.m.
Mohawk will play five of their 10 regular season games at Tim Hortons Field. Along with the match versus the Royals, additional opponents at home include the Niagara Knights (Sept. 23), Conestoga Condors (Sept. 28), Fanshawe Falcons (Oct. 5) and the Sheridan Bruins (Oct. 12).
The Mountaineers will open their season on the road versus the St. Clair Saints on Sept. 9 and will then travel to play the Lambton Lions the following day. Mohawk will also play on the road versus the Humber Hawks (Sept. 21), Royals (Oct. 7) and Falcons (Oct. 15).
