Verhees, Jones named Mountaineers Athletes of the Week

Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Ashley Verhees (Elmwood, ON) of mixed doubles curling and Jacob Jones (Brantford, ON) of men's curling as the Athletes of the Week, in conjunction with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Feb. 14-20.

Verhees, along with teammate Eric Just (Hamilton, ON), won the OCAA championship for mixed doubles curling this past weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. The duo defeated the Humber Hawks (2) 8-0 in the gold medal match and went 3-1 in the round robin play. Verhees and Just were named Most Valuable Players in their competition. 

Jones led the Mountaineers men's curling team to a gold medal as well. As the team skip, Jones and Mohawk defeated the Hawks 5-4 in the championship match. The team went 3-2 in round robin play. Jones was also named Most Valuable Player for the men's competition and First-Team Championship All-Star.

The Mountaineers Athletes of the Week is an initiative put together by Mohawk's Department of Athletics and Recreation and the MSA.
