Mathieu, Steinke named Mountaineers Athletes of the Week

Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Sam Mathieu and Oliver Steinke as the Athletes of the Week, in conjunction with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Sept. 20-26.

Mathieu, a second-year midfielder from Burlington, ON, provided the Mountaineers women's soccer team with their lone goal on Saturday, Sept. 25 versus the Redeemer Royals. Mathieu's goal tied the game, which ultimately concluded in a draw, and led to Mohawk's first regular season point.

First-year goalkeeper, Steinke, was a huge part of the two victories for men's soccer this past week. The Dundas, ON native made a combined 10 saves in two matches, allowing only one goal and had a shutout this past Saturday versus Redeemer.

The Mountaineers Athletes of the Week is a new initiative put together by Mohawk's athletics and recreation department and the MSA.

Every Monday two new athletes will be chosen for the award and announced here on the Mohawk Mountaineers website. Also, make sure to follow the Mountaineers Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for additional news, graphics and videos.
