For over thirty years, Wes led the athletic programs at Mohawk. He began his career as a faculty member and Men's Basketball Coach, eventually progressing as the Athletic Director, Director of Student Life, and finally the Dean of Students. During his ten years as men's basketball coach, Wes' teams played in the championship game eight times and won the OCAA Championships in 1968, 1970 and 1971. Wes holds the record for the most consecutive league games won, with 57 in four years and initiated the common practice of college teams playing university teams. Wes also led the Cross Country team to four OCAA Championships. Through the years, Wes played an integral part in the OCAA as the First Vice President on the executive for 4 years and was honoured with an OCAA Shield Award for his dedication. Hicks was instrumental in the development of the Students' Athletics Committee and believed in the importance of student involvement in all aspects of athletics. Wes' commitment, dedication and vision for athletics at Mohawk are what he will be remembered for.
