The Mohawk Mountaineers travelled to Waterloo for a second consecutive friendly versus an Ontario University Athletics opponent.
It was a strong defensively performance by the Mountaineers, holding the Waterloo Warriors to one goal in an evenly matched first half, but Mohawk ultimately lost 4-0.
Despite the Mountaineers not generating clear scoring chances, they were well organized at the back and disrupted the Warriors' attack.
Mohawk head coach, Jordan Brown, highlighted the defensive efforts of his team during the first half of the game.
"It is always a challenge to play against a university team, but I think there was a step up defensively from last game," Brown said. "We were very organized and we played when we had to play."
Early in the second half the Warriors added to their lead and would add two more in the 73rd and 86th minutes.
The second half was characterized by multiple attacks by the Warriors, but Mohawk goalkeeper Oliver Steinke stood out after blocking many of the various attacks by the home team.
"I'm happy with my performance today," Steinke said. "Of course it is not the result that we wanted, but the team proved very positive things that we should consider and keep going forward."
The Mountaineers will make their 2022 Tim Hortons Field debut on Aug. 31 when they host the Geroge Brown Huskies in a preseason match. The women's match begins at 6 p.m. and the men begin at 8 p.m.
Admission for Tim Hortons Field games are free for everyone.
