Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Beth Minielly and Rommel Calura as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Nov. 28 – Dec. 4.
Minielly (London, ON) not only had a near double-double in the Mountaineers 92-57 victory over the Sheridan Bruins, the fourth-year guard was noted for doing the small things that don't show up in the box score. In 31 minutes, she scored 14 points on five-of-10 shooting with nine rebounds – six of which were offensive – and added a steal. The intangibles Minielly showed on the court are also what earned her this honour – from fighting for loose balls and bringing a positive attitude right from the start was key for the Mohawk win.
Calura (Hamilton, ON) has been one of the best three-point shooters in the OCAA this season and showed why in the Mountaineers 104-91 win over the Sheridan Bruins. The fourth-year guard scored 22 points and shot six-of-nine from three. Calura heads into the winter break sixth in the league in three-point percentage, shooting 44.4 per cent and fifth in three-pointers made with 29.
