Women’s volleyball assistant coach Taylor Brisebois has been named to the Coach 2 Coach – OCAA Mentorship Program.
The OCAA Mentorship Program aids in the development of new coaches with “consistent 1-to-1 support, ongoing professional development, access to sport experts and peer network inclusion, all built around a dedicated learning framework.”
Mountaineers Supervisor of Varsity & Community Engagement, Matthew Schnarr, who also doubles as the women’s volleyball head coach, was appointed this past week to Mohawk College’s Board of Governors.
The Women’s Volleyball team will return in 2021-2022 with some familiar faces behind the bench, as well as one new addition. Head Coach Matthew Schnarr returns for his sixth season alongside Nick Petrella, Ben Tonin and Taylor Brisebois.
As the Mountaineers continue to roll out their 2021 Academic Awards, the Women’s Volleyball team has been named the recipient of the 2020-2021 Mountaineer Team Scholastic Award.
The Mountaineers have announced the 2020-2021 All-Academic athletes which is highlighted by 35 student-athletes. With no competition over the past year, there has been extra emphasis on academic excellence and the Mountaineers were up for the challenge with over 50 per cent of this year’s athletes receiving All-Academic honours.
Victoria Pasalic of the Women’s Volleyball team has won the Keepers of the FourDirections Award – South, at Mohawk’s 2021 Indigenous Awards ceremony this past month. The Keepers of the FourDirections Award is given to an Indigenous student who demonstrates academic success and personal growth in one of the four directions of the Medicine Wheel.
The third episode of the Mohawk Mountaineers Podcast has been released and focuses in on the student-athlete experience at Mohawk. Graduating athletes Dakari Gennaro (Women's Volleyball), Carter Rudge (Cross Country), Stephanie Godden (Women's Softball) and Mark Wylie (Men's Basketball) join the podcast to breakdown their time at Mohawk as a Mountaineer.
The new era of Mountaineers Athletics and Recreation is in full swing and with another school year looming in the distance, the Mountaineers have announced seven student-athletes who will makeup the inaugural Mountaineer Athlete Ambassadors (MAA) team.
It was a pleasure to honour and highlight all 14 of the Mountaineers graduating athletes over the past three weeks. This crop of players all endured a college experience far different than any other graduating class with the current landscape of college athletics during the pandemic.
