Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball were forced to a fifth set by the Redeemer Royals, but eventually came away with a 3-2 win (25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 26-28, 15-13).

The Mountaineers looked to be cruising after winning the first two sets. It was then the Royals who answered with two consecutive set victories to force a fifth set.

The final set went back and forth before Mohawk rallied together a couple points to earn the win.

"I think we are focusing on our game," said head coach Brad McClure following the match. "Most of our practices are based on what we are doing and not necessarily on what the other teams are trying to do. I think that (has) translated well in the last two or three games."

Anthony Beijes (Hamilton, ON) led the team with 20 kills and Peter Pilling (St. Catharines, ON) provided 24 assists.

The Mountaineers have now won three consecutive games.

"I think we are focusing on our game," McClure said. "Most of our practices are based on what we are doing and not necessarily on what the other teams are trying to do. I think that is translated well in the last two or three games."

McClure also explained why Mohawk struggled in the third and fourth set.

"The first reason we got extended is execution on our part, we had a couple of opportunities to close up the game and we didn't take advantage of them," McClure said.

The Mountaineers will next face the St. Clair Saints on Nov. 12 at home for a 3 p.m. start.
