Mohawk Mountaineers men's volleyball began their 2022 season this past weekend in Sudbury, ON and came away with one win in two matches.

In the first game the Mountaineers lost to the Cambrian Golden Shield 3-0 (21-25, 19-25, 18-25).

Anthony Beijes (Hamilton, ON) led Mohawk with 11 kills in the opening match and Peter Pilling (St. Catharines, ON) assisted on 22 plays.

Game two favoured the Mountaineers as they swept the Boreal Vipers 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-14).

Head coach Brad Mcclure explained what Mohawk changed to get the victory in the second game.

"In the first game, we needed to bring more consistency in all aspects of our game to get the result that we wanted," McClure said. "We were able to put pressure on them from the very beginning in the second game. Cambrian and Boreal are two different teams that require different approaches."

Pilling showed off his versatility versus the Vipers with a team-leading seven kills and seven aces. Radmehr Boulhassani (Tehran, IR) assisted on 17 plays.

"We will continue to work on establishing consistency in all facets of our game," McClure said.

The Mountaineers will continue their season on Oct. 29 when they travel to play the Sheridan Bruins at 3 p.m.
