Brad McClure named head coach of men's volleyball team

The Mohawk Mountaineers are excited to announce the hiring of Brad McClure as the 15th men's volleyball head coach in program history.

McClure joins the Mountaineers with four years of experience at the college level, working previously as the assistant coach for Western University's women's team and Fanshawe College's men's team. Most recently, he spent the 2016-2017 season with Conestoga College as the women's head coach.

"The opportunity to build and contribute to the Hamilton volleyball community is what drew my interest to the men's volleyball program," McClure said through a virtual interview. "There is a long and rich history associated to the program that I am really excited to add to. I'm really excited to be a part of, and contribute, to the high-performance culture that is being built within Mohawk Athletics."

Early in his coaching career McClure trained almost exclusively on the women's side but after claiming a silver medal with Team Ontario at the 2017 Canada Games, he ventured into the men's side. The Hamilton native has played a pivotal role on the beach side with the Ontario Volleyball Association over the past six years and has served as the 18U head coach for Hamilton's MAC Volleyball Club for over two years.

"There are a lot of things to be excited about with this hire," says Matthew Ferreira, Mohawk's Director of Athletics & Recreation. "Coach McClure has experience in both the OCAA and OUA along with a decorated coaching resume in beach volleyball. He is a staple in the Hamilton community with the MAC Volleyball Club and will help us grow our reach locally. I feel Brad is the right person to lead the men's volleyball program back to provincial prominence."

The Mountaineers men's volleyball team hasn't medalled since claiming gold in 2017 and we are confident McClure is the perfect candidate to help bring the program back to the top of the OCAA.

Welcome to Mohawk Mountaineers, Brad McClure!
