Mohawk Mountaineers women's softball came through with a total of 14 runs in a pair of games versus the Conestoga Condors as they celebrated their seniors prior to the first game.

A total of five student-athletes were honoured pre-game for their time spent with the Mountaineers softball program. This included Tamiko Chiba (Markham, ON), Ally Lawson (Beamsville, ON), Olivia Thompson (Peterborough, ON), Kerri Smith (Hagersville, ON) and Michaela Walker (Dundas, ON).

Despite the solid offense from Mohawk, they lost the two games 13-5 and 14-9.

Game one started off on a positive note when the Mountaineers opened the scoring in the first inning on an Alexandria Humphrys (St. Mary's, ON) RBI single. But the positivity would not last long as Conestoga answered with four runs of their own in the following inning.

Mohawk fought back to eventually lead the game 5-4 after the fifth inning but a six-run sixth for the Condors sank the Mountaineers chances. Conestoga would add three more runs.

Humphrys, Kerri Smith (Hagersville, ON) and Tamiko Chiba (Markham, ON) all led Mohawk in game one of the doubleheader with two hits each.

Game two was one of the most back-and-forth contests of the season as the Mountaineers refused to give up. Mohawk went into the fifth inning down by five runs but exploded for six runs themselves and led 9-8.

Conestoga scored three runs in each of the last two innings to win the game 14-9. Michaela Walker (Dundas, ON) pleased the home crowd in the final home game of the season with a three-hit, two RBI performance.

The coaching staff had a clear message of remaining positive as the team enters the final two games of the season.

"Stay positive and have fun," said co-head coach Erin Forman. "All you can do is play and be proud of yourself."

The Mountaineers final regular season games will be played Oct. 16 against the Fanshawe Falcons with game one set to start at 12 p.m. and game two for 2 p.m.
