Facing a doubleheader on both Saturday and Sunday, the Mohawk Mountaineers were unable to come away with a victory.

Although Mohawk has now lost thirteen consecutive games, the team is still trying to build on their performances and maintain the positive atmosphere they've had all year.

Game one on Saturday against the Humber Hawks found Mohawk down early and the Moutaineers' offense could not respond. After Humber opened the scoring in the first inning, each team went scoreless until the Hawks broke the game open in the fourth inning with four runs. Humber added more runs before the end of the game leading to a 7-0 final.

Mohawk had some scoring chances in the game, leaving four runners on base that may have swung momentum in the Mountaineers' favour had they been driven in.

"We were really unlucky in this game I think," said head coach Logan White. The coaching staff remained upbeat and made sure that no member of their team lost any passion or team spirit despite the direction that the game was going.

The Mountaineers offense struck in game two against the Fanshawe Falcons after scoring only three runs in their previous five games. But Fanshawe's pressure would prove too much on their way to a 10-5 final against the Mountaineers.

Mohawk scored all five of their runs in the second inning and infielder Gracie Martin (Six Nations) led the way with two runs scored to add to her solid season on offense.

The message to the team after the seemingly frustrating pair of losses was one of positivity and team building. Although Mohawk's season has not been what the team had hoped for, something the Mountaineers will forever be proud of is that they never gave up or stopped having fun along the way.

"This is always going to be about building on positives and not dwelling on negatives. When we have fun, we know what we're capable of," said White.

On Sunday, the Mountaineers lost 10-0 to the Lambton Lions and 6-5 to the Sheridan Bruins.

Mohawk will once again host the Humber Hawks for their next doubleheader, which will be played on Oct. 5 at Mohawk Sports Park for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. start times.
