Mohawk Mountaineers are proud to announce Samantha DeHaan and Hamza Salman as the Athletes of the Week, in partnership with the Mohawk Students' Association, for the week of Sept. 19-25.
DeHaan (Smithville, ON) has become one of the top goalkeepers in OCAA women's soccer, specifically after this past week when she made key saves that led to a draw versus the number four nationally ranked Humber Hawks and a 1-0 win over the Niagara Knights. In the match versus the Hawks, DeHaan allowed an early goal but proceeded to make four saves to keep her team in the match. The second-year followed that performance with a seven save shutout versus the Knights that included crucial second half saves.
Salman (Hamilton, ON) dominated the second half match versus Niagara for men's soccer, which eventually resulted in a goal to give Mohawk a 2-0 advantage. It was the first career OCAA goal for the first-year forward. Salman showed grit throughout the match to ensure the Mountaineers kept up their energy and time of possession.
